A Guide to the HPAS Examination by HPPSC

The Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services (HPAS) examination, conducted annually by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC), stands as one of the most prestigious and coveted civil services exams in India. 

The HPAS examination comprises three successive stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview/Personality Test. The Preliminary Examination involves two objective-type papers – Paper-I (General Studies) and Paper-II (Aptitude Test). It serves as the initial screening process for the Main Examination, where candidates tackle a series of subjective papers, including English, Hindi, General Studies-I, General Studies-II, General Studies-III, and an optional subject of their choice. The final stage is the Interview/Personality Test, evaluating candidates’ overall personality, communication skills, and suitability for administrative services.

Paper-I: General Studies (Code No.01)

• Marks: – 200.  Number of questions: 100 (objective type questions) (Multiple choices) questions.

Paper-II: Aptitude Test (Code No.02)

• Marks – 200  Number of questions: 100 (objective type) (Multiple choices) questions.

Mains Examination (Descriptive type) (900 marks from 1100):

It comprises of total 8 papers.

• Paper-I: English (100 Marks) (Qualifying in Nature)
• Paper-II: Hindi (100 Marks)  (Qualifying in Nature)

• Paper-IV: GS-I (200 Marks)

Note:

Candidates will have the option to attempt all the papers, except the language papers in Hindi or English medium.

• The candidate who qualifies main examination will be called for viva-voce individually by the office. Final selection will be determined on the basis of written performance in the main examination and viva-voce.
