Brief guide to PUNJAB PCS 

The Punjab Civil Services (PCS) examination, orchestrated by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), represents a pivotal gateway for individuals aspiring to join the esteemed ranks of Punjab’s administrative services. Qualifications: The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution. Provided that the candidate may be permitted to take Preliminary Competitive Examination while studying for his degree.

No candidate shall be eligible for appearing in the Preliminary Competitive Examination, unless he/she has passed the Matriculation Examination with Punjabi as one of the compulsory or elective subjects or any other equivalent examination in Punjabi language, which may be specified by the Government from time to time on or before the last date of submission of Application Forms.

Candidates should not be below 21 years and above 37 years of age as on January 01, except the posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent Jails/District Probation Officers.

For the posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent Jails/District Probation Officers, the candidates should not be below 21 years and above 28 years of age.

No. of stages:

Preliminary Examination (Objective type):

Preliminary examination consist of 02 papers based on objective type (multiple choices) questions.

Paper-I: General Studies (Code No.01)

  • Max. marks: 200 marks
  • No. of Questions: 100 objective type (Multiple choices) questions.

Paper-II: Aptitude Test (Code No.02)

  • Max. marks: 200 marks
  • No. of Questions: 80 objective type (Multiple choices) questions.

  • Currents events of National and International importance.
  • History of India and Indian national movement.
  • Indian and World Geography- Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the world.
  • Indian polity and governance –Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights issues, etc.
  • Economic and social development – sustainable development poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
  • General science.

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision making and problem solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level).
  • English Language comprehension skills (Class X level)

Mains Examination (Descriptive type) (1350 marks):

It comprises of total 7 papers.

Note:

  • Candidates will have the option to attempt all the papers, except the language papers in Punjabi or English medium.
  • Candidates exercising the option to answer Papers in Punjabi language may, if they so desire, give English version within brackets of only the description of the technical terms, if any, in addition to the version in Punjabi language.
